An angellightphoto brand

On this page you will find links to the latest articles written for the MYTH + MYST section of the ANGELLIGHTPHOTO website. I am still in the process of breathing life back into this area of my photography and will adapt this page as time progresses.

Myth and Myst is the original name that I gave to the fine art side of my photography business. That was way back when the Internet was in its infancy and not the dynamic entity that it is today. The name represented the central theme of my personal work, which, at that time, had strong mythical and mystical elements — very much in contrast to the grounded and realistic product images that were the mainstay of my commercial work. Nowadays, all my photography sits under the angellightphoto brand. So, please make time to browse the whole angellightphoto website as there is plenty to see, read, and buy.

MYTH AND MYST — MYTHOLOGY AND MYSTICISM IN PHOTOGRAPHY

The Myth and Myst website was never about mythology in the story sense, nor mysticism in the spiritual sense. It was, however, about capturing the spirit of stories expressed through the medium of photography. For example, the composition of an image such that it resembles a classical painting. Or, the incorporation of components that speak of elemental forms — earth, air, fire, and water. While I don’t currently have a specific Myth and Myst styled gallery, I do endeavour to include this underlying philosophy in every aspect of my photography. It doesn’t matter whether you’re shooting landscapes, portraits, wildlife, or street scenes; adding a touch of mystery, or the power of the elements, will always serve to elevate the image.

Throughout the history of art, painters, sculptors, writers, and musicians, have all been inspired by the mythologies and spiritual teachings of our world’s great civilisations and their associated cultures. That’s true in the present every bit as much as it was in the past. But there is something deeper and more primal behind the spirit, aura, and presence that we read about in literature. We relate to those stories because we feel that same raw power in the trees, and rocks, and oceans around us. We understand them, not because they are mythological, but because their roots are firmly embedded in reality.
